2010 General Election Campaign
To make parliamentary candidates aware of the importance of biodiversity and DWT's work.
The broad objective is to get Devon Wildlife Trust and Devon’s Living Landscape on the political agenda for the general election.
More specifically this could be defined as:
• All Devon parliamentary candidates to recognise the importance of Living Landscapes to Devon’s environment and economy and DWT’s lead role in creating Devon’s Living Landscapes.
• Key audiences to be informed of PPCs responses (principally DWT members, but possibly also wider public)
Strategy
A lobbying campaign backed up by public and media relations campaigning.
Tactics
• Explanatory publication (Living Landscapes document?) sent to all candidates.
• Director holds telephone meetings with each (significant) candidate.
• Briefing paper for candidates laying out the issues.
o What is a Living Landscape and why is it important
o (Three?) key facts about DWT
• Western Morning News advertorial to explain importance of political decisions to Devon’s environment.
• Press release announcing media event
• Press release outlining PPCs responses/DWTs take on them
• Wild Devon (in house magazine) article – interviews with (three?) candidates.
• Page on the website.
• Media event: take PPCs on balloon ride tour of Working Wetlands/Avon Valley? (If they are allowed! Maybe a car tour if not.)
