BROHANE) TAIN : Deprived communities in Wenchi and Tain to access potable water Potable water The Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Opoku has directed the Wenchi Municipal and Tain District Assemblies to ensure that their deprived communities have access to potable water soon. He explained that water was an essential commodity and that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that each and every Ghanaian enjoyed the facility and controlled water borne diseases.

TWO COMMUNITES TO BENEFIT FROM WATER PROJECT

Global Media Foundation, a charitable media foundation based in Sunyani has secured a 20,000 Ghana Cedi grant from the Australia High Commission in Ghana for the provision of safe drinking water for two communities in the Tain District of Brong-Ahafo. The two communities that are to benefit from the foundation’s access to Clean Water and sanitation campaign are Brohani and Kankan at the cost of 24 thousand Ghana Cedis.

NGOs institute sanitation and hygiene awards in B/A

African Media Aid (AFRIMA) and Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), human rights and social development non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based in Sunyani, will from next year institute Sanitation and Hygiene Awards to recognise outstanding achievements of organisations, individuals and communities in the country, in the area of sanitation and hygiene.

Fiapre Methodist School needs toilet facility

FIAPRE) SUNYANI WEST :Toilet facility The Science Master at the Methodist Primary and Junior High School at Fiapre in Sunyani West District, Mr. Benjamin Boakye has called for the provision of litter bins and toilet to improve sanitation in the school. He appealed to the Sunyani West District Assembly, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to assist the school to acquire these sanitary facilities. Mr. Boakye told GNA that school children and teachers used a community toilet in the town at a fee of 10Gp and went to toilet in the bush whenever the facility was closed.

LACK OF ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER IN SUNYANI WEST DISTRICT IN THE BRONG-AHAFO REGION OF GHANA

Lack of access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities such toilet are one of the major problems facing communities in the Sunyani West District in Brong-Ahafo of Ghana. Out of the 218 communities in the District only 50 have access to safe drinking water through boreholes, while most of the households have no toilet facilities making “free range” of easing oneself common phenomenon in the communities in the District. This, situation poses a health threat to the people in the District.
