20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
This event is part of the Realising Rights: Stop Violence Against Street Children campaign
On the 20th November 2009 the world will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention aims to uphold the rights of all children, including their right to be protected from all forms of violence, torture, degrading treatment and deprivation of liberty. For many children the daily reality is very different, often being the victim of violence in the hands of agents of the state - the very people who are supposed to protect them and secure their right to a happy and fulfilled life.
The Consortium for Street Children aims to use the event to draw attention to this neglected issue by asking people to sign our petition. We want to reach 1000 signatories by 20th November and we need your help.
