Digging Deeper: Elements for Just Peace

Go beyond the realities of the situation on the ground in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, hear different perspectives from experts in their field, learn about a life transformed and be updated about Palestinian homes demolished by Israeli authorities.
The conference begins with journalist Yasmin Alibhai-Brown in conversation with Jeff Halper, Director, Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions, and will be followed by a talk from Prof Avi Shlaim based on his book ‘Israel and Palestine’. In the afternoon an ‘Any Questions’ session will be moderated by Frank Barat (Coordinator, Russell Tribunal on Palestine). Panellists include Kate Allen (Director, Amnesty), Afif Safieh (former Palestinian General Delegate to the UK, USA and Russia), Avi Shlaim and Jeff Halper. A story of transformation will be told by comedian Ivor Dembina and the day will end with an update about Israel’s demolition of Palestinian homes.
Day two, 27 March, includes the ICAHD UK AGM and is for members of ICAHD UK invited guest. It will focus on providing information about the current campaign scene within civil society from Linda Butcher, CEO, Shelia McKechnie Foundation. Workshops will focus on learning a human rights rhetoric and how to influence intransience. Information and strategies will be shared within special interest groups. Jeff Halper, Carole McKenzie and Linda Ramsden are featured speakers.
