FairPensions - The Campaign for Responsible Investment

FairPensions aims to halt human rights abuses and environmental destruction caused by multinational corporations, by mobilising some of their largest shareholders - UK pension funds and their fund managers

Campaign managed by: Ben Watson
Campaign location: England

FairPensions aims to ensure that UK pension funds (worth £1.2 trillion) and their fund managers (worth trillions more) use their power as major shareholders in multinational corporations to hold them to account for their negative environmental and social impact - including human rights abuses, environmental destruction and climate change.

FairPensions was established in 2005 by a group of leading NGOs and Trade Unions including ActionAid, Oxfam, Traidcraft, WWF, UNISON and Unite. We have since run campaigns focusing on access to medicines in the developing world, holding irresponsible mining companies to account, and climate change. We have helped to make multi-billion pound investors more responsible and accountable for their investment decisions, and have seen this feed through into how corporations are held to account. In 2009 FairPensions was shortlisted for the 'Small Charity, Big Achiever' award by Third Sector magazine.

FairPensions believes that responsible investment practices not only help to safeguard investments, but also future-proof UK companies and our economy; as well as bringing environmental and social benefits.
