Give legal protection to allow private tenants to complain without the fear of retaliatory evictions

WARNING - your home is at risk should you dare to complain

A serious weakness with current housing legislation is that it doesn’t protect private tenants from eviction when exercising their rights to have repairs and health and safety issues addressed. We believe there needs to be urgent reform of the legislation to address this problem, so that tenants don’t have to choose between living in poor conditions and being evicted. This pratice is known as retalialtory eviction and is perfectly legal in the UK. Despite a national campaign to close this loop-hole which got the support of over 100 MPS we are still not closer. As there are no records kept to show how wide this problem is, it is easy for the Goverment to say it is very rare. We need as many tenants as possible to speak out, so if you are a tenant who is concerned that making a complaint might mean an eviction notice then join our national tenant voice to call for better protection and also access to a legal redress service, which doesn't currently exist.
