International Day for Street Children: Louder Together

The International Day for Street Children: Louder Together is a campaign to give a louder voice to the millions of street children all around the world so their rights cannot be ignored.

Campaign managed by: Anne Louise Meincke
Campaign location: England

The International Day for Street Children: Louder Together is a campaign to give a louder voice to the millions of street children all around the world so their rights cannot be ignored. Governments need to listen. We want to help make this happen. We must give street children a voice. Together we are louder and have more impact so we are asking everyone to...

RAISE YOUR VOICE FOR STREET CHILDREN

The International Day is being celebrated across the globe: by street children in Morocco, Uganda, Ethiopia, Guatemala and India; school children in the UK; students in Ireland; the Consortium for Street Children and its 60 members in over 130 countries; Aviva in the 28 countries in which it operates; and politicians in Tanzania and the UK.

Campaign goals
  1. Data collection guidelines and research are developed at UN level – facts and data. Data and research outline the clear areas of need for street children so that governments can tailor policies to effectively include street children
  2. The UN recognise the Day (by 2014) – legitimacy and sustainability. UN recognition of the International Day adds pressure on governments to include street children in policy and practice
  3. Governments include street children in their National Plans of Action and Child Protection Systems – so that street children are distinguished, but not isolated from other children in policy frameworks.
