Power to the people

This journal entry is part of the Action for Learning Democracy campaign

26 August 2009
74 people signed as a result of one email: if every one of them gets 35 more people to sign, it will be in the top 50, and if they get 35 people each it will be top of the list.

One supporter has proposed that the Harigney Labour Party manifesto for local elections includes a commitment to set up a ‘democracy hub’.

CDX and other organisations are posting the petition to their members and including it in their newsletter. Let me know what you are doing.

I am reminded that until the 1980s, most adult literacy courses were run on a shoe string by volunteers and community groups. But they also campaigned for public funding and support. For an effective democracy, political literacy is just as important as the ability to read and write. This is a campaign we can win.
