At present Digital Britain and the Digital Taskforce focus is getting the whole UK population online by 2012 people. This fails to address that currently only 1% of Websites are fully accessible world wide, the cost of assisted technologies and the high cost of broadband access and computer equipment for people on low incomes or in benefits. Government plans that all people applying for benefits will do so online by 2012. 18% of the UK population is Disabled as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act. Yet with a combined UK spending power of £80 billion Disabled and Deaf people do not have the same access to online content. This includes website providers failing to: ![]()
