Make Reginald Mitchell Way Safer

A concealed junction on a busy roundabout and an uncaring council. A recipe for disaster.

Campaign managed by: Bankeyfields

UPDATE: After much campaigning in the local press, on a local hyperlocal website http://mytunstall.co.uk, talking to the police and stop talking to a ignorant transport department, and actually councillors in the area.

Plans were fast tracked in place and new features were put onto the roundabout, reducing the lanes, the width of the roundabout, and pushing the exit/entrance lanes further forward so that cars can see what his hurtling down.

In less that 10 months of campaigning the whole project was completed.

Many thanks to all involved in making a change.

Back in 2000, a new housing estate was opened in the potteries town of Tunstall. Not only was the housing estate new, but a new bypass had been built to move traffic away from a town centre.

The only exit entrance to the housing estate leads onto this fast moving road, is a roundabout with a speed limit of 30mph which is often broken by at last 10 to 20 mph. A recessed entrance/exit so people leaving the estate can barely see cars speeding from the right (also the right of way).

To make things worse a grass bank further blocks the view of people leaving the estate, which is meant to be cut back, but isn't even after many months of residents asking.

Why form a campaign about this, why not simply write to the council about this matter? We have and have been told there must be at least three fatalities before improvements can be looked at.

Campaign goals
  1. Raise awareness locally so people slow down
  2. To have the council cut the grass so we can have an extra second of reaction time
  3. To get the grass bank cut back, improving visibility
  4. To get speed reduction measures in place
