An Initiative to Increase forest cover and to Combat Climate Change in Africa to be launch in Ghana

A 40-year sub-regional initiative to help increase forest cover, improve quality of forest cover and improve crucial ecosystem services provided by forests, such as hydrological services as well as combating Climate Change in Africa will be launch in Ghana in September this year. The project dubbed “Million Tree Africa Project” (M-TAP) is an initiative of Global Media Foundation, human rights media advocacy organization based in Ghana.

Network to Champion fight against corruption in Africa is formed

A new network to champion the fight against corruption as well as promoting accountable and transparent governance in Africa known as United Association for African Affairs (UAAA) has been formed. The main goal of UAAA is to facilitate collaboration, coordination, resource mobilization, information sharing and advocacy amongst governmental, civil society organizations, institutions and individuals involved in fighting corruption and promoting accountable governance in Africa.

BROHANE) TAIN : Deprived communities in Wenchi and Tain to access potable water Potable water The Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Eric Opoku has directed the Wenchi Municipal and Tain District Assemblies to ensure that their deprived communities have access to potable water soon. He explained that water was an essential commodity and that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure that each and every Ghanaian enjoyed the facility and controlled water borne diseases.

TWO COMMUNITES TO BENEFIT FROM WATER PROJECT

Global Media Foundation, a charitable media foundation based in Sunyani has secured a 20,000 Ghana Cedi grant from the Australia High Commission in Ghana for the provision of safe drinking water for two communities in the Tain District of Brong-Ahafo. The two communities that are to benefit from the foundation’s access to Clean Water and sanitation campaign are Brohani and Kankan at the cost of 24 thousand Ghana Cedis.

70 Percent of People in Sunyani West District in Ghana lacks access to toilet facilties

Records from the Sunyani West District Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region have revealed that only 31 point seven percent of the total population have access to modern toilet facilities in the District. Toilet facilities provided by private individuals constitute 17 point two percent, public toilets, 13 point zero percent while institutional facilities make up one point five percent. The District Environmental Health Officer, Justice Owusu-Ansah Pobee made the revelation in an interview with GLOMEF News Desk at Odumase, the District Capital.

This is unfair, CEO of GLOMEF told the Media

The CEO of Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), a human rights and anti-corruption media organization, Raphael Godlove Ahenu says in a democracy, the media holds the key to bring about mass awareness on issues of political, social and economic importance. He however said, it is regrettable that political news items are given more preference over social issues in all the media channels in Ghana. This, according to him is leading to a massive neglect of social issues, especially the issue of violence against women and children which is rampant in the country.

CHILD ABUSE CASES ON THE INCREASE IN BRONG-AHAFO, GHANA

The Brong-Ahafo Office of the Department of Children from January to December this year has recorded 29 child abuse cases. The Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Department, Hammond Oppong Kwarteng, who made this known to the Global Media Foundation in Sunyani, said out of the cases, 16 were non-maintenance cases, six physical abuse cases and three sexually related cases, whilst the rest were unlawful removal.

COME OUT AND VOTE IN THE IMPENDING DISTRICT ASSEMBLY ELECTION

The Founder and CEO of Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF),formerly African Media Aid, a human rights and anti-corruption media organization based in Sunyani, Raphael Godlove Ahenu has called on Ghanaians to take the impending District Assembly election very seriously and come out to vote massively for competent Assembly members for their respective electoral areas. According to him, it is worrying that many Ghanaians have decided not to vote in the impending District Assembly election which is scheduled to take place on the 28th of this month.

CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD ABUSE LAUNCHED

A 10- year national project to empower stakeholders to combat child abuse has been launched at Odumase in the Sunyani West District of the Brong-Ahafo Region with revelation that about 100 million girls will be married before age 18 in the next ten years some as young as 10 or even younger. Statistics further indicate that there are an estimated 51 million child brides worldwide, the majority of them in West and East Africa.

NGOs institute sanitation and hygiene awards in B/A

African Media Aid (AFRIMA) and Global Media Foundation (GLOMEF), human rights and social development non-governmental organisations (NGOs) based in Sunyani, will from next year institute Sanitation and Hygiene Awards to recognise outstanding achievements of organisations, individuals and communities in the country, in the area of sanitation and hygiene.
