Zeeler Campaign

A campaign that aims to help rescue the remaining rainforest ecosytems in Nigeria, by working to raise awareness of the worsening gully erosion ecological disaster massively destroying those areas, hoping to see adjustments in policies, and to attract the attention of the international community.

Campaign managed by: eloblogs

Land and water resources, and general biodiversity are provisions in which the welfare of mankind strongly depend on.

The condition of these resources in some parts of Nigeria have been continually deteriorating since as early as 1920, and of course, with consequent impact on the well-being of the affected people.

Mighty gullies (Mbuze) have been developing all over eastern Nigeria, and most intense in a small community known as Nanka.
Yet, adequate technical and financial resources to stop the problem have not been deployed.

Only recently was the major cause underlying the Nanka problems revealed; climate change.

Financial implication to put an end to this problem is great and international assistance is obviously needed, but with the utmost commitment of the federal government.

With it's very little actions and committment aimed at making the problem widely known, Zeeler Campain hopes to attract international attention and better committment from the federal government of Nigeria, and governments of the affected states which although can only do less.

Whether in the context of humanitarian aid, the normal ODA (Official Development Assistance), climate change adaptation fund, etc., or all combined, let the people be relieved of this problem. That is the change needed!

Although Zeeler Campaign cannot force these changes, it will continue to campain, as it identifies with the words of a fellow activist Ann Thorpe which explains that campaigners try to make injustices unavoidably public so that they provoke governments, corporations and the public to make a choice between accepting it or helping to do something about it.

Campaign goals
  1. To get to the MPs so as the have adequate representation of the gully erosion issues in National climate policies including that of adaptation
  2. to reach the government of the affected states and lobby them to mainstream climate change adaptation into development policies.
  3. to get the attention of some "developed countries" through their embassies
  4. to spread the awarene to all Nigerians which is imperative for attitudinal change
