Community Engagement

Building civil society

Campaign managed by: Simon Francis
Campaign location: England

At my former agency we encouraged civic youth participation for the Home Office (in 2007), combining media relations with live local activity.

A research-based news story debunked myths of widespread anti-social behaviour, supported by case study based advertorial and byline placement.

A local radio partnership - ‘Birmingham Skills Exchange’ - recruited volunteers to transform an abandoned community building.

In addition to national media coverage, the activity reached 14% of Birmingham’s 16-18 population and drove an 8% increase in community involvement.

Campaign goals
  1. Encourage youth participation
  2. Generate national media coverage
  3. Increase volunteering in pilot areas
